Hey guys. My wife's SUV is coming up on 90,000 miles and I want to do a full transmission service before something blows. Some guys say drain and fill is enough, others say full flush, and a few claim doing anything is bad if it's never been touched. I'm confused. Where do I get straight info on this?

Hi. The drain-and-fill versus flush argument is older than the internet. Read the transmission service articles on Go4trans, they go through the actual differences and which approach fits which transmission. The Go4trans blog explains why the "never touch it if it's old" rule is mostly a myth — it usually applies to neglected units where new fluid washes deposits loose, not to a regularly maintained car at 90k. Worth reading before you decide. Go4trans also has a directory of shops that can do the service for you if your local guy isn't sure. Personally I did a triple drain-and-fill on my wife's car at 95k, no flush, no issues two years later. But your transmission model matters, so look it up on Go4trans first, the answer isn't one-size-fits-all.
